Tomfoolery of the Highest Order

In another bender, I have seen 3 movies in the past 5 days, The Bourne Supremacy, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, and The Village. I get to the Bourne Supremacy tomorrow, but I have to get the other 2 reviews in ASAP, in case you are planning to go to the theater this weekend.

Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle - From the first time I saw the poster for this movie, (I never even seen a preview of it) I knew I would go see it. Although I turned 33 years old yesterday, that doesn't mean I am too old for immature nonsense, or (to use my favorite word in the dictionary,) tomfoolery. If you want to just go out and laugh, and simply enjoy a movie this weekend, go out and see this one. My buddy Chris and I were laughing our asses off from front to back. If you want to see a fine allegory, learn a life lesson, or leave the theatre with your delicate sensibilities intact, this is not the movie for you. Political correctness is scarce, and this is just a simply fun movie. I saw it at a 24-screen multiplex, and it was only one 1 screen in a smaller theatre that was about 90% full. I expect this movie to gain strength on word of mouth and end up doing quite well. I hope I've convinced you to see it. The last scene, were they showed composite sketchs of the suspects who broke out of jail, will have you laughing for an hour afterwards.

As a side note, the White Castle they are trying to get to is located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. I lived there for 6 years, and, believe me, that wasn't filmed anywhere near Cherry Hill, NJ.

The Village - DO NOT WASTE 5 CENTS ON THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!!!! This is perhaps the worst movie I have seen in 10 years. I am now convinced that M. Night Shyamalan is a one-hit wonder. The Sixth Sense was great, Unbreakable sucked, Signs was God-awful, but this movie is on a level of garbage all its own. Dumb plot, dumb "shocker," dumb everything. If you see it after reading this, you'll wish you took my advice. If you must see it, wait for it to come on the USA Network.

His entire speech can be summed up like this: "Vote for me, and I'll give you all kinds of government entitlements, welfare, and socialized health care. Vote for me, and I'll give all kinds of affirmative action to everyone except white men. Vote for me, and I'll kiss the ass of the teacher's unions and environmentalists. Vote for me, and we'll be more like France. Yeah, I know we mocked Bush and Quayle for talking about 'family values,' but I have to make the regular people think I am against homosexuality and abortion, because that crap worked for them. And all of this God stuff I'm saying, that's just to fool the dumb Southerners and Jesus freaks into voting for me."

Some quick hits:

- You could hear a pin drop when Kerry talked about fighting terrorism until he got to the part about the "back-door draft" in the National Guard. Oh, please.

- Sad how he mentioned how troops could not afford body armor when he voted against funding them.

- Someone tell him to call "investing" in health care and jobs is really nothing more than social welfare.

- 40,000 new troops, but "not in Iraq?" What is he offering, a new jobs program through the military?

- I haven't God mentioned that much since I last watched The 700 Club. Nice try by Kerry. He is fooling no one.

- Why hasn't Kerry, if he has so many good ideas about how to fight terrorism, introduced any legislation concerning terrorism during the 19 years as a Senator?

- 25% of the children in Harlem have asthma???!!!

- Someone, somewhere, show me an example where a Republican questioned a Democrat's patriotism. Yet, there are quite a few examples of Democrats doing that to Republicans.

- Kerry askes that we "judge him by [his] record." Well, I have been, and that is why I started this blog.

- If Bush talks about 9/11 during his speech anything like Kerry did, Bush will be accused of "politicizing" 9/11.

- Boy, those Democrats hate John Ashcroft. I love the guy, and thank God we have him.

- I thought there were "Two Americas?" Get you story straight with Edwards, will ya?

- Nice of him to take credit for helping to bring peace in Vietnam.

- 50 years of peace and prosperity after WWII? For a guy who reminds us of Vietnam every 5 seconds, it is funny how quickly he could ignore it.

- With the way they used Max Cleland, I thought I was watching the Jerry Lewis telethon.

- If Kerry is so against dependency on Saudi oil, why is he against drilling in Alaska, when the people there support it and the unions he is owned by support it too?

- Nice downplay of the good economic news of the last few months, spinning it that Bush is saying that we can't do any better. Big-time credit to who wrote that part of the speech.

- I liked his nationalism in certain parts. Too bad we all know, just like his God references, that he didn't mean a word of it. If Bush had done that, he would have been called a fascist.

I hope 50 million people saw that "you can't get ahead with us" speech.

I'll watch the snoozefest for sure. A few parts revealed early are laughable. For example:

"Wages are falling, health care costs are rising and our great middle class is shrinking. People are working weekends; they're working two jobs, three jobs and they're still not getting ahead," he was to say.

Well, he can first look to his running mate as one of the main causes of rising health care costs. And, many people are working two jobs to get ahead. What is wrong with some struggling? The only way he can fix that is to place more people on the government dole. What does his think? That we need to sleep more like the French do? Or adopt France's failed 35-hour work week? I work 2 jobs, and have most of my life. I don't need help from the government, help that really can't provide anyway. Americans are much better off than Kerry and Edwards want people to think. When Fred Thompson, former Tennessee Senator and current Law and Order actor, was asked why he didn't run for President in 2000, he responded:

"I don't want to spend several months trying to convince people they're not as well off as they think they are."

Amen, brother. And then there's this:

"Strength is more than tough words," he was to say in a speech for the Democratic National Convention.

Kerry is absolutely right, in an unintended way. Him and his fellow Democrats have been all talk for years, while Bush has been all action. Funny, isn't it, how they accuse of Bush of doing too much and too little at the same time? And, he'll claim:

"Let there be no mistake: I will never hesitate to use force when it is required. Any attack will be met with a swift and certain response," he was to say. "I will never give any nation or international institution a veto over our national security. And I will build a stronger American military"

and

"an administration where "America never goes to war because we want to, we only go to war because we have to."

So, he'll wait for us to be attacked before he responds. Thanks to Kerry for at least making one thing clear.

Kerry is nothing but empty slogans and promises. The truth is right in front of you. The question is only if you want to accept it or not, or if you even care.

He will say this:

"Decisive. Strong. Aren't these the traits you want in a commander in chief?"

Yes, I do. And we already have that in George Bush.

And, Edwards will say this about our soldiers:

"The Stars and Stripes wave for them. The word `hero' was made for them. They are the best and the bravest. They will never be left behind, and you understand that. And they deserve a president who understands that on the most personal level, what they have gone through — what they have given and what they have given up for their country."

Gee, that's quite rich coming from a guy who voted against financing the troops because it was in his personal political interest to do so.

It must be nice to be a Democrat. Say one thing before, say a totally different and opposite thing today, and no one in the party holds you to account.

Hilarious note in Entertainment Weekly: Liev Schreiber is filming a book called Everything is Illuminated and went out of his wayt to hire an aspiring Iraqi filmmaker who he'd seen on MTV's True Life:

"We felt really guilty about what our country had done to his country," says producer Peter Saraf. "And then, of course, he gets here, and it never occurred to me that he would say something like 'But I love George Bush--he changed my life!'"

That is just example of the new opportunities that Iraqis (and Afghanis) have thanks to President Bush. John Kerry, who is in hock to the left-wing kooks who talk about human rights but don't do anything beyond blaming America and Israel for everything, would throw them all under the bus if it were politically expedient to do so.

Ex-dictator's lawyer says he had brain scan and could die

SADDAM Hussein has suffered a minor stroke and could die before his trial, his defence lawyers claim.

The multinational legal team is still awaiting permission to visit the deposed Iraqi ruler.

A letter demanding their doctor be given access to the former dictator was yesterday sent by Jordanian lawyer Mohammed al-Rashdan to Salem Chalebi, the head of the Iraqi prosecuting authorities.

Mr al-Rashdan said: "Our information is that he's in very poor health. We understand from the International Committee of the Red Cross that our client has had a brain scan to discover how badly he has been affected by the stroke. We believe he could die because of his health problems.

"We also think an attempt may be made on his life.

"We're very worried that we won't have a client to defend." He added: "Under the Geneva Convention we're entitled to have access to our client. But all our requests have been ignored."

This sounds like a total crock but let me say this: It wouldn't bother me a bit if Saddam suffered a slow painful death.

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog has just been thrown out of the convention. It's unclear why; I tried to get some words from Triumph and his handler as the urbane dog was led away by two policemen, but he seemed a little alarmed and wasn't talking much.

This is the second major political incident involving Triumph this year. Presumably he'll now be caged.

- Larry D. Hines is an openly gay former Marine; Darren E. Karr wants to end income tax, federal involvement in schools and political correctness; the mantra of Muadin - he uses just one name - "One People, One Planet, One Awareness." One Nut Case.

Hilarious. The Socialist guy sounds like Dennis Kucinich.

Speaking at Camp Pendelton today, Dick Cheney said this:

"Terrorist attacks are not caused by the use of strength. They are invited by the perception of weakness."

He is 100% correct. Think he isn't? Take alook at what Iran is up to now:

Iran starts atom tests in defiance of EU deal

Iran has broken the seals on nuclear equipment monitored by United Nations inspectors and is once again building and testing machines that could make fissile material for nuclear weapons.

Teheran's move, revealed to The Daily Telegraph yesterday by western sources, breaks a deal with European countries under which Iran suspended "all uranium enrichment activity".

It will also exacerbate fears that the regional power is determined to make an atomic bomb within a few years.

Since we are in a Presidential election season, and it is doubtful that Bush will attack Iran, they feel they can take this step. Do you think they care one bit about the EU? Of course not. They know that the EU is weak and gutless. They also know that John Kerry is too. Don't kid yourself. The mullahs are praying that Kerry wins, because they know he will turn to worthless diplomacy just like the EU and the United Nations has.

Remember a few weeks ago Iran arrested a few British sailors and paraded them around on TV? That was a test run for this latest move. Like it or not, Iran will have to be dealt with sooner or later.

But when Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan came courting President Jacques Chirac in Paris last week, hoping the ever-reluctant French would back Turkey's bid to join the European Union, the cash-and-carry policymaking was right out front.

As one senior Turkish official told NEWSWEEK, the intention was to "spread a package of economic benefits" before Chirac that "France could not reject." Sure enough, Turkish Airlines announced it would purchase 36 Airbus planes worth more than $1.5 billion. Erdogan also hinted he might be in the market for France's big-ticket nuclear technology. And just as surely, after years of implicit opposition and fence-straddling, Chirac suddenly decided that support for Turkey's candidacy suits "the national interests" of France.

Jimmy Carter and Al Gore have some balls, let me tell you. I won't bother to rehash their past records, but I pray that America sees this party for what they are: A group of one-world Socialists who would do nothing to fight terrorism except raise taxes.

Kerry camp spins its wheels

AURORA, Colo. — Sen. John Kerry spoke about the plight of the American worker when he traveled to Detroit earlier this week, a safe message for the blue-collar workers who build cars there.
So it was a little strange that the campaign picked as its press-pass logo for its Motor City tour the gleaming showcase car of a foreign auto company — Rolls-Royce — that makes cars priced far outside the financial reach of any middle-class voter.

Using a Rolls-Royce logo in Detroit. This is beyond dumb. Of course, how do Kerry's people respond? By slamming Bush, as usual:

Asked about the press-pass logo, Kerry spokesman David Wade said it was unintentional error by a campaign volunteer and then criticized President Bush's economic policies.
"I could say that the Rolls-Royce is the perfect symbol of who got the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, but sometimes objects in the rearview mirror are closer than they appear," he said.

Where does Kerry find idiots like this? And, he's not finished, either.

"Under President Bill Clinton, our strong economy actually helped bring Rolls-Royce jobs to the United States for American workers," Mr. Wade said. "Now, with health care costs rising and no end in sight under George Bush, American automakers say they may have to outsource jobs overseas. That's why John Kerry's health care plan offers relief to American companies and hope for the United Auto Workers who are fighting to put John Kerry and John Edwards in the White House."

Wow. Riding Clinton's coattails, blasting Bush's "tax cuts for the rich," crying about healthcare and sucking up to unions, all in response to a dumb mistake by Kerry's campaign. Just hilarious!!

Not everyone wants Jenna Bush to teach in Harlem.

Artists and Activists United for Peace, a black and Latino public-action group, plans to express its displeasure with the First Daughter at a rally on Sept. 2, during the Republican National Convention.

"We don't think she is of a high enough moral character to teach school, considering her past adventures," said group organizer John Penley. "Her taking this job is keeping a black person from getting the job. We think she and her sister should enlist in the military."

Her past adventures? You mean because she went to the bar a few times? Oh, the humanity!!! These race-based groups think they are making Bush look bad by pulling this nonsense. What they are really doing is making themselves look like the dopes that they are. I'm quite sure Jenna Bush will lower the quality of the fine, unparalleled Harlem schools.

Here we go again. When The Democrats can't argue on the facts, they piss and moan about "timing."

Pentagon Finds Bush's Guard Records

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon on Friday released newly discovered payroll records from President Bush's 1972 service in the Alabama National Guard, though the records shed no new light on the future president's activities during that summer.

A Pentagon official said the earlier contention that the records were destroyed was an "inadvertent oversight."

And Terry McAullife is pissed:

Washington DC - According to CNN, some of President Bush's missing records from his time in the Air National Guard were found today. The payroll records that were discovered were initially reported destroyed. In response, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued the following statement:

"The supposed discovery of these records on Friday afternoon, as reporters converge on Boston to cover the Democratic National Convention, is highly questionable. If the Bush Administration continues to search, maybe they'll find answers to the long list of unanswered questions that remain about George W. Bush's time in the Air National Guard. Bush's military records seem to show up as randomly as he did for duty."

Yeah, as if the reporters are going to forget all about this. This crap has been going on so long, why would it stop now? Here's the one question that any Democrat who complains about Bush's guard service should be asked:

"Mr. [Dope Democrat], if President Bush was AWOL in the National Guard, then how did he learn how to fly a fighter jet?"

Really, does anyone care about this besides the Michael Moore crowd?

Disabled Students Sue Over Med School Exam

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Four learning-disabled students sued the organization that administers the medical school admission test, alleging they were denied extra time to take the exam in violation of California's disability laws.

The discrimination lawsuit, filed Monday in Alameda County Superior Court, argues that students who have trouble reading can learn to practice medicine if they receive enough time and a distraction-free setting in which to complete the Medical College Admission Test.

"Without accommodations, I really can't show what abilities I have," said plaintiff Brendan Pierce, 28.

Pierce and the other students allege that they asked the Association of American Medical Colleges to give them more time to take the MCATs in April but were turned down because the organization said their disabilities were not severe enough to qualify for special treatment.

Yeah, and if I had another half-hour to do the logic games section of the LSAT, I'd be on my way to Yale next month. I don't feel sorry for this guy one bit. He can't do the job, period. Just like I couldn't be a car mechanic, chemist, or New York Times columnist. I can just imagine this guy, over a freshly deceased individual saying, "It's his fault. If he would have just lived longer so I could have figured what to do, he'd still be alive. It's not my fault that he couldn't accomodate me."

If these 4 are given special consideration, upon graduation, they should immediately become the family doctor for every lawyer and judge that allows them it. That is, of course, if they graduate. Hell, they'll probably sue the medical school for not providing enough accomodation in order to graduate.

Sorry, but if I seem to be a heartless bastard, that is only because I am. I don't want my life, or the lives of my family to depend on a person like this. Do you?

I heard Ann Coulter say a few weeks ago on the Michael Reagan Show that the Democrats think nothing of insulting the intelligence of 49% of the American public if they thought they could fool 51%. How could anyone possibly argue with her after this Sandy Berger spin job?

Kerry Camp Accuses White House of Berger Leak

Huh? So what if they leaked it? It doesn't matter how or why it came out, what Berger did is at issue here.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat John Kerry's presidential campaign accused the Bush White House on Wednesday of disclosing the existence of a criminal investigation against former national security adviser Sandy Berger for political advantage.

Kerry's people are shameless, as well as the rest of Berger's spin doctors. I just heard Burger's lawyer on Wolf Blitzer, and now, all Berger did was accidentally not adhere to the procedures of the National Archives. Of course, Blitzer didn't challenge him on it, and ask, why did he feel the need to hide things in his socks. This is a joke.

And, why did Berger do this? To help the 9/11 Commission? OK, prove it. Show us what he took. Until then, I'd be willing to believe that he did it to protect himself, Clinton, or Kerry. Or, who is to say that he wasn't helping some other country? Take a look at his law firm, Stonebridge International. Take a look at their profile:

Did Kerry know when he made Berger an advisor? A lot of questions here, but we all know the answers already. Problem is, the "mainstream" media doesn't give a damn.

I attended the University of Pennsylvania for one semester in 1994. I hated it there. I felt I didn't belong with those liberals, who had zero tolerance for dissent. The professors I had were even worse. Because of that, I did not go back for a second semester. Part of me wishes I stuck it out there just to get the U of Penn sheepskin, but my subsequent experiences at Arizona State University makes me glad I decided to skip out on Penn.

In less than a month, I will begin my first year of law school. (No, it's not at ASU or Penn, and I am not saying where yet, because someone might read this blog and revoke my admission!) I have already met about 25 or so of my future classmates, and most of them are liberals, but they seem not to be disagreeable ones. I think I'll get along just fine with them.

During the application process, may people are consumed with getting into a school that ranks highly on the U.S. News and World Report rankings. For me, the rankings meant little because there was only one school I wanted to attend, a school that is considered 2nd-tier (out of 4). If you look at the list, you'll find tied at #7 The University of Pennsylvania. A top law school, no doubt, with a sterling reputation, that deserves its' ranking. However, this is the kind of far-out leftists the school produces. I was both stunned and pissed when I read this:

Can you believe this? A top law school will write Shari'a law. Un-f'n-believable!!! And, think about what type of students will undertake this project. People, who without a trace of irony or feelings of hypocrisy, will go on to their next class and complain that homosexuals are being denied their civil rights because they aren't getting affirmative action and that women are discriminated against for making a dollar less a year than a man.

Let me simplify this for you. This is a conversation that could plausibly take place on campus:

Student A: "Hey Jimmy, where are your signs? The gay rights rally starts in 5 minutes. You never miss them."

Student B: "I can't go. I have to finish this staute that calls for the stoning of homosexuals in the Maldives, then I have to provide for a police force that allows for the beating of women for showing too much ankle. I promise I'll go to the rally for gay domestic partnership benefits next week, or the pro-Choice rally the weekend after that."

You know, I just don't think I'll be missing out on much attending another law school.

Official denies nuclear arms found in Iraq

Baghdad, Iraq, Jul. 21 (UPI) -- A U.S. military official Wednesday denied a report of Iraqi missiles carrying nuclear warheads being found in a concrete trench northwest of Baghdad.

The daily al-Sabah newspaper Wednesday had quoted sources as saying three missiles armed with nuclear warheads were discovered in a trench near the city of Tikrit, the hometown of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

A U.S. military spokesman in Tikrit told United Press International that the report was untrue.

"Nothing's been found. The report is not factual," said Master Sgt. Robert Cowens, a spokesman for the 1st Infantry Division, based in Tikrit.

I, like many others, did not take the report seriously when I first heard it. But, am I the only one who thinks that this "crying wolf" again and again is designed to dampen the day when we actually do make a huge find?

I thought our military was full of people who just couldn't get any type of job, and were forced by poverty to join.

Many Elite Soldiers Leave for Better Pay

WASHINGTON - Just when the U.S. military needs them most, senior Green Berets, Navy SEALs and other elite forces are leaving for higher-paying jobs.

After getting years of training and experience in the military, they leave for other government jobs or for what defense officials said Tuesday has been an explosion in outside contractor work.

"What makes them so valuable to us makes them highly marketable on the outside," said Chief Master Sgt. Robert V. Martens Jr., senior adviser at the U.S. Special Operations Command, which also oversees equipping and training elite Army Rangers and Air Force special operations commandos.

Like it or not, the military is not a social program, designed to give worthless people something to do. The military is a viable career option that could prove much more beneficial than simply going to college. In the military, you can get both an education and obtain highly marketable skills. And, you can earn a level of self-respect you never dreamed of.

Better salaries, retirement benefits and educational opportunities are among incentives that might help stem the problem, defense officials said as they met with lawmakers to discuss ways to keep forces who have become so crucial to the war on terror.

Ah, the free market. That is the correct response. Granted, it can't match the private sector, but those who choose to stay despite the lower pay are exactly the kind of people I want defending this country.

Once again, if you are a liberal, you are forced to defy all logic and reason to make excuses for one of your boys. By now, you surely know what Sandy Berger, Clinton's former national security advisor, has been caught red-handed removing classified documents.

Of course, since Berger is a Clinton stooge, and now a former Kerry advisor, the media is downplaying it as much as possible. The New York Times buried it as deep as they could, in the last page before the op-eds.

The talking points got out real fast, and by this morning, Democrat dopes like Tom Daschle and other Democratic clowns were all over the TV complaining about "questionable timing," since the investigation started months ago. (Funny, they never questioned that timing of the so-called Iraqi prison scandal, since the media knew all about it months before the pictures came to light.)

So, if you are a liberal Democrat, you are forced to find the most ridiculous excuses imaginable to protect your boy. And, if you are a liberal, aren't you tired of it now? For example, take a look at what Oliver Willis wrote about it:

...want to read this story.  I can hardly remember reading such a chilling tale that was true, and yet told so coldly.  It is a story about a woman who became pregnant with triplets, and all she could think about was how her life would be ruined by it.  So, she decided to have two of the three eliminated.  The way this woman tells it, so emotionless, so indifferent, it sent chills up my spine like no Stephen King story ever could.  A few examples:
 
I found out I was having triplets when I went to my obstetrician...My immediate response was, I cannot have triplets. I was not married; I lived in a five-story walk-up in the East Village; I worked freelance; and I would have to go on bed rest in March. I lecture at colleges, and my biggest months are March and April. I would have to give up my main income for the rest of the year. There was a part of me that was sure I could work around that. But it was a matter of, Do I want to?
I looked at Peter and asked the doctor: ''Is it possible to get rid of one of them? Or two of them?'' The obstetrician wasn't an expert in selective reduction, but she knew that with a shot of potassium chloride you could eliminate one or more.
 
On the subway, Peter asked, ''Shouldn't we consider having triplets?'' And I had this adverse reaction: ''This is why they say it's the woman's choice, because you think I could just carry triplets. That's easy for you to say, but I'd have to give up my life.'' Not only would I have to be on bed rest at 20 weeks, I wouldn't be able to fly after 15. I was already at eight weeks. When I found out about the triplets, I felt like: It's not the back of a pickup at 16, but now I'm going to have to move to Staten Island. I'll never leave my house because I'll have to care for these children. I'll have to start shopping only at Costco and buying big jars of mayonnaise.
 
Of course, the pro-abortion zealots at the New York Times found this story perfectly appropriate to run.  This woman is sub-human as far as I am concerned.  To her, it's all about her.
 
When Stephanie and I decided to have a baby, we joking discussed the possibility of twins or triplets, or even more.  I'll never forget her answer.  "If that happens, we'll just have to find a way to make it."  This woman may feel justified now, but the actions that she describes casually today will haunt her for much of her future.

That nefarious individual Colin Powell has been insensitive to Moammar Gadhafi, and surely has violated his civil rights somehow.
 
Libya Threatens to Sue Powell for Comment
 
TRIPOLI, Libya  — Libya's foreign minister has threatened to sue U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell  for calling Moammar Gadhafi's regime "totalitarian."
     At a gathering at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington Thursday, Powell was asked by a Libyan-American about U.S. diplomacy toward the Libyan regime.
     "We have no illusions about Col. Gadhafi or the nature of his regime ... its non-democratic, totalitarian nature, and we will approach it in that light," Powell said.
     Foreign Minister Abdel-Rahman Shalqam called the remarks unacceptable and threatened legal action in a statement released Friday night and carried by the official news agency JANA.
     "The Minister Colin Powell humiliated the people of Libya and therefore ... we will file a lawsuit against him," Shalqam was quoted as saying. "What he said is considered blasphemous and defamatory against Libyans."
 
That is beyond laughable.  However, since the Supreme Court is slowly becoming an internationalist kangaroo court, this isn't entirely implausible.
 
He did not say where or how any such suit would be pursued.
 
That's easy.  Start at the United States District Court for the District of Northern California, and work your way up through the 9th Circuit.  Hell, Gaddafi will probably get a summary judgement in his favor.
 
If Gadhafi wants to sue someone, he should start with his barber and his tailor.

I rarely go to movies these days, for many reasons.  Few interest me, and I am too between work and family that I never get out to see the few that do.  This year, I have seen so few movies, I could name them all easily:  The Passion of the Christ, Miracle, Shrek 2, Fat Slobs' Bullshit Fest, The Global Warming Farce, and, well, that's it.  This week I went on a binge, and saw 3 movies in 4 days.  Here are my reviews:
 
I, Robot - I thought going in that there was a real good chance this movie could be a real clunker.  I figured it would either be real good or God-awful.  Well, it was neither, but it was a lot closer to real good.  I always like Will Smith, and he was real good in this movie, even though he was upstaged by Sonny the robot.  Bridget Moynahan needs to fire her agent for getting her the role she played in this movie.  It isn't that she was awful, she wasn't at all.  But a woman of her beauty and talent deserves to have roles that make her come alive, not ones that subdue her talents to where you just want to smack her for being a dunce.  From the sellout crowd in huge theatre #8 at the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe, Arizona, I thought that this movie might have a chance to do good numbers.  After the first day, it sure looks like it will indeed be a hit.  - my rating: ***
 
Warning to Ted Kennedy:  DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!!!  IT WILL CAUSE MAJOR FLASHBACKS!!!

Spider Man 2 - The best synopsis of the movie I've come across was not on the internet, but from a 12 year old boy at my barbershop.   He said, "It was fun, but too mushy sometimes."  I wish I could top that.  Simply put, I like Spider Man as played by Toby Maguire.  I think he has mastered the role, and how Peter Parker is portrayed as an akward loser when he isn't partaking in superhuman feats is truly entertaining, and this character development, I believe, is the main reason why SpiderMan has been successful while movies like Hulk have failed.  I could have done without the mushy love story crap, and Kirsten Dunst is nothing more than average at best, certainly no beauty like Bridget Moynahan.  (Come to think of it, I wish she played Mary Jane instead)  Despite that nonsense, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit and look forward to SpiderMan 3. - my rating:  ***1/2
 
Anchorman -  I must be getting old.  I hated this movie from top to bottom.  Yeah, it had some funny moments, but I think Will Ferrell just isn't that funny.  Looking at the aged Christina Applegate, I started to realize that I will be 33 in two weeks, and that my salad days are truly over.  And, who are the dopes who put Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller in every 3rd movie?  Vince Vaughn is the worst actor going today.  Unlike many of my friends, I hated Swingers and thought he sucked in it.  (At least Jon Favreau has tried different roles, and has played some real good ones, unlike Vaughn) Since then, Vaughn has played the same lousy character in every movie that he has been in.  Stiller is OK, but I am beyond sick of him too.  The gags in this movie got stale real quick, and everything was a cliche I've seen 50 times before.  The gratuitous Bush-bash at the end cemented by hatred for this movie.  The only redeeming thing about this movie was the voice over of Bill Kurtis from A & E and the one great-looking blond who had about 5 seconds of screen time.  If I were you, I'd wait until this movie came on Comedy Central to bother watching it. - my rating - negative *******

The Canadian Navy is tired, so they're taking the next year off:

OTTAWA -- The Canadian navy will sit out the war on terrorism for one year in an effort to give exhausted sailors a chance to recuperate. HMCS Toronto left the Arabian Sea and the American George Washington Carrier Strike Group July 4 with a broken Sea King helicopter on deck.

And the navy has quietly decided against dispatching a replacement ship until spring 2005 at the earliest.

The Sea King on HMCS Toronto has been grounded since June 25 after particles were discovered in its gearbox.

Naval Capt. Bruce Belliveau, Toronto's commanding officer, said the Sea King was available to hail foreign ships during 80% of the six-month deployment. It broke down during the frigate's preparations to leave.

"It's been a very, very busy six months," Belliveau said. His crew hailed 1,300 ships and boarded 123 of them, but didn't find any terrorists or criminal activity.

There was a scene in the movie Field of Dreams, where Kevin Costner's character shows up at the door of the writer played by James Earl Jones. Jones says, "You're from the 60's." Costner replies, "Yes." Jones then pulls out something and sprays it at him and yells, "Back to the 60's!!"

Thousands of Iraqis Demand Saddam's Execution

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Thousands of Iraqis marched through central Baghdad on Thursday demanding the execution of former dictator Saddam Hussein and denouncing Islamist militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Noisy protesters waved Iraqi flags, chanted anti-Saddam slogans and held up posters depicting mass graves.

"Let every fool listen, Saddam has to be executed," "No, No to Tikrit" shouted the crowd in reference to Saddam's hometown north of Baghdad. Protesters also shouted slogans denouncing the United States, Zionism and terrorism.

"Death to Wahabis! Death to Zarqawi!" shouted several hundred people in the heart of Baghdad's commercial district, referring to a strict Sunni Muslim sect based in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Jazeera TV licence sparks anger
CRTC ignores petition signed by 100,000 RAI viewers

OTTAWA — Federal broadcast regulators have cleared the Arabic Al-Jazeera television network for viewing by Canadians via cable and satellite. But in a decision released today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission set stringent rules designed to keep anti-Semitic or other abusive comments off the air.

The application by Canadian TV distributors to carry Al-Jazeera - often called the CNN of the Arabic world - had generated intense controversy.

Jewish groups in particular were concerned about what they saw as anti-Semitic commentary on the 24-hour news network based in Qatar on the Persian Gulf.

Charles Dalfen, chairman of the CRTC, agreed in an interview that Al-Jazeera has broadcast objectionable material.

Some of the remarks cited at commission hearings clearly held Jews up to "hatred and contempt on the basis of religion," said Dalfen.

Did you know Fox News is banned in Canada? That's right. Having an unauthorized satellite dish is illegal in that supposedly free country. But Al-Jazeera? That's OK up there. There is no denying it. Canada is a pro-Muslim country, probably for the same reasons that France is: because they are afraid of them and what they might do.

On the other hand, he said, Al-Jazeera met the test of being a credible news service, and the commission had a legal duty not to unduly infringe freedom of expression.

The conclusion was that "we couldn't absolutely ban it," said Dalfen.

What a joke. And it isn't just Fox News that Canada hates.

While the CRTC approved the Arabic network, it turned down an application to offer Italy's RAI International as a digital specialty service through cable or satellite.

More than 100,000 Italian-Canadians signed petitions favouring the RAI application to broadcast 24 hours a day in Canada.

Since I grew up in South Philly, I have a rudimentary understanding of Italian, and have watched RAI quite a few times, both here and in my several trips to Italy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that station at all.

Sources: Plane passenger with suicide note arrested

(CNN) -- Immigration officials are holding an airline passenger who was arrested in Minnesota carrying suspicious materials, government sources said Wednesday.

Customs and Border Patrol agents arrested the passenger, Ali Mohamed Almosaleh, on July 7 in Minneapolis after he was picked randomly for a search, sources said.

Agents found Almosaleh to be carrying what they described as a suicide note and DVDs containing "anti-American material," officials said.

The man had traveled from Syria, authorities said, but they would not disclose his nationality.

Gee, he probably was an Icelander, and the cheap flight he booked through Price Line routed him through Damascus. I can't possible imagine how the Feds found this guy suspicious.

This is what the alleged "paper of record" feels is front-page material? Gossip? They should just put "The offical paper for Kerry/Edwards" at the top and end the pretense. This "Cheney will be dropped" speculation plays right into Kerry's hands, and the Times knows it. The more people are talking about Cheney being dropped, the less they are talking about that worthless shyster John Edwards.

If Cheney is off the ticket, for whatever reason, I'd be shocked. Liberals hate him, and Conservatives love him. If you want real "gravitas," you'd look at Cheney, not Edwards.

This is nothing but another "flood the zone" scheme to foster nervousness amongst Republicans and fear that Cheney will cost Bush the election, kind of like how the Times went on a crusade against the Masters and Augusta. And the result will be the same. Failure.

Just ask yourself this: What legitimate conservative or Republican has called for Cheney to go? None. End of story.

Dead Air America had the vapors because the Houston Chronicle did not cover the arrest of a right-wing radio host for idecency with a child.

Then there was the phone call I got last week from Mike Papantonio, a talk host on the Air America Radio network — the liberal answer to Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio.

He wanted to know why we didn't cover a story — even though we did.

Air America has 15 stations across the country, but none in Houston. You can hear it on Sirius and XM Satellite Radio, however.

Papantonio challenged me about why the Houston Chronicle "ignored the Jon Matthews story."

Matthews, a former conservative talk show host, pleaded guilty last month to indecency with a child.

Papantonio said, "We're doing a story on the coverage of Matthews. First of all, the story was pulled from the Chronicle's archives, and you covered the story exactly one time since it happened.

"There was no mention that he was the most conservative, right-wing talk host in Texas.

"We're taking the angle that the Houston Chronicle just looked the other way. It looks like you ignored the story, and I'm really interested in why you pulled it from your archives."

Uh, looks like those idiots at the floundering network can't spell:

When I heard this, I thought, "huh?" I read lots of stories on the Matthews case, from start to finish.

I clicked on www.houstonchronicle.com and checked the archives. There were nine stories about Matthews, from the investigation to the guilty plea.

Then it clicked on me. This isn't a cover-up. This isn't about political philosophy.

This is a spelling malfunction.

Man Jailed for Shooting Off His Testicles

LONDON (Reuters) - A British man who accidentally shot himself in the testicles after drinking 15 pints of beer was jailed for five years on Tuesday for possessing an illegal firearm, a court spokesman said.
David Walker, 28, was arguing with a friend at a pub in South Yorkshire, northern England, when he went home to get his sawed-off shotgun, which he jammed into his trousers.

Race clouds the picture for success in economy

At 52d and Spruce Streets in West Philadelphia, Shirley Garrett, owner of the Harvest Vine diner, is in a predicament.

She is losing customers to an eatery that recently opened in a more bustling block just outside the predominantly black and low-income district where her restaurant is located, but she feels hamstrung in drawing new customers herself because few outsiders venture into her neighborhood.

"It is very difficult when only those in your neighborhood are the consumers" and most are poor, said Shirley Randleman, who heads a new neighborhood business association that is trying to help Garrett. Randleman believes racial stereotypes are keeping many visitors away.

That is a pathetic cop-out. The first mistake she made was opening her diner at 52nd and Spruce. If you are from Philly, as I am, you already know why this is dumb. 52nd and Spruce is a shit hole. There is absolutely zero reason for anyone outside the neighborhood to visit this diner. None. There are no movie theatres, sports arenas, hotels, shopping centers nearby. Nothing but a rat hole neighborhood. I didn't make it that way. Those are the facts.

In Chester, Edward Tucker is struggling to find more investors for his three-year-old plastics business. Plasticoncentrates Inc., which produces pigment concentrates to color plastic products, would be growing faster had he managed to raise $1.5 million, rather than about a third of that amount.

An immigrant from Sierra Leone who celebrates America as a land of opportunity, Tucker is conflicted about the issue of race. Growing up in West Africa, he did not feel racially victimized, and one of his mentors in America is a white man.

But, he said, "I often wonder if I was a preppy white whether my access to capital would be slightly different."

He is absolutely right. He would have an even harder time getting money if he was white. Plus, Chester, a Philly suburb, is another hell-hole town. If I were an invester, I would be wary of putting my money in any business in that dying town. Go ahead and call it racism if it makes you feel better, but no sensible person would risk their money there.

Leave it to one of the Philly rags to put down the "poor black man" while acting like his friend.

What I do know is that it was right to hold Saddam Hussein accountable, absolutely correct. And anybody who doesn’t believe it wasn’t correct ought to go dig around in those graves or even make a judgment about what would happen if you left Saddam Hussein alone to do this.

Arm lost in Net-recipe bomb blast

FIVE young Frenchmen were injured, two of them seriously, when a bomb they were making following instructions from the Internet exploded today.

One of the group suffered serious injuries to his eyes, while another lost an arm, judicial officials and firefighters said.

The men were 25 and 30 years old.

The full circumstances of the incident in the town of Saint-Georges-de-Reneins, north of Lyon, were not immediately known.

Gee, I wonder if they were Muslims? Nah, they would never do anything like that. Must be some neo-Nazis or Christian fundamentalists.

Terrorists 'could have Iraq's WMD'

Foreign fighters battling Iraq's interim government could have seized materials for weapons of mass destruction during the "security vacuum" after last year's invasion, the country's national security adviser said yesterday.

There is nothing to worry about here. After all, Saddam never had any WMD's to begin with. Just ask the nearest Democrat.

Senator Jay Rockefeller is the two-faced scumbag who is pulling this crap now. The same Senator Rockefeller who authored a memo, leaked to Sean Hannity, that outlined ways to use classified material to attack President Bush.

And, look at this whopper that Rockefeller tried to pass off yesterday:

Isabel Sanford, 'Weezie' on 'The Jeffersons,' dead at 86

Isabel Sanford, best known as "Weezie" or Louise Jefferson on the sitcom "The Jeffersons," has died of natural causes, her publicist said Monday. She was 86.

Sanford had been hospitalized since July 4 and died Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with her daughter Pamela Ruff at her side, longtime friend, publicist and manager Brad Lemack said.

Her health waned after she underwent preventive surgery on a neck artery 10 months ago, Lemack said. He did not release a specific cause of death.

Sanford made her feature film debut in the classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," before co-starring with Sherman Hemsley for more than 10 years in CBS's "The Jeffersons," a spin-off of the popular series "All in the Family," in which she also appeared.

In 1981, Sanford became the first black woman to receive an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

I loved watching The Jeffersons when I was a kid, and I'll never forget her. May she rest in peace.

U.S. Mulls How to Delay Nov. Vote in Case of Attack

If you read the liberal blogs and websites, you'll see that they are acting like Bush is attempting to keep himself in office like a despot, and this plan is a nefarious scheme to accomplish that. And, this being Reuters, just look at the lede.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A senior House Democratic lawmaker was skeptical on Sunday of a Bush administration idea to obtain the authority to delay the November presidential election in case of an attack by al Qaeda.

U.S. counterterrorism officials are looking at an emergency proposal on the legal steps needed to postpone the presidential election in case of such an attack, Newsweek reported on Sunday.

"I think it's excessive based on what we know," said Rep. Jane Harman of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, in a interview on CNN's "Late Edition."

And, what exactly is wrong for preparing for even the most implausible event? Nothing, of course. But why let reality get in the way of another chance to bash Bush?

If there were an attack on election day, and the election were still held, and Bush was re-elected, what do you think we would hear then? You already know we'd hear that Bush only won because of the attack, that he knew it was coming and let it happen so he could win, that blacks, women, and gays were disenfranchised, etc.

And, get this:

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge warned last week that Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network want to attack within the United States to try to disrupt the election.

Harman said Ridge's threat warning "was a bust" because it was based on old information.

Talk about hypocrisy. This is from one of the same people who think the vague August 6, 2001 PDB, which was full of old information, was enough proof that Bush knew about September 11th in advance.

As for the liberal blogs, Oliver Willis has a typical reaction anout this:

It really would be nice to have a government who doesn't see national security as just another election issue to fuddle with.

*Sigh*

Memo to Ollie: National security is an election issue, like it or not. Of course, Oliver doesn't want it to be because he knows that the Democrats get steamrolled on this isuue.

Ron Reagan to address Democratic convention

LOS ANGELES - (KRT) - In a move sure to embarrass Republicans, Ron Reagan will address the Democratic National Convention this month.

Reagan, son of former President Ronald Reagan and an outspoken critic of the Bush administration, will be at the podium on the second night of the four-day event in Boston, July 27, in support of stem-cell research, he said Sunday in an interview here.

Give me a break. Every Republican knows that Ron Reagan is a Godless dope liberal. Let the Democrats have him.

Edwards Makes Little Difference in Polls

WASHINGTON - John Kerry's choice of John Edwards as his running mate was received favorably by the public, polls suggest, but it has made little difference so far in the race with President Bush.

Kerry strategists are trying to lower expectations for a "bounce" in the polls that presidential candidates sometimes get after choosing a running mate or attending a convention. Bush strategists were quick to raise expectations of a double-digit "bounce" for the Kerry-Edwards team by the end of the Democratic National Convention.

I don't think that the Bush team ever really thought that Kerry would get such a huge bounce from his pick of Edwards. By putting out this expectation, Bush pollster Matthew Dowd set up this disappointment for Kerry/Edwards, a stroke a political brilliance.

Now, really, how many people actually said, after Edwards being the VP choice, "Well, I was going to vote for Bush, but now I am definitely going to vote for Kerry." You know the answer to that: practically zero.

Lynne, Dick Cheney Differ on Gay Marriage

WASHINGTON - Lynne Cheney, the vice president's wife and mother of a lesbian, said Sunday that states should have the final say over the legal status of personal relationships.

That stand puts her at odds with the vice president on the need for the constitutional amendment now under debate in the Senate that effectively would ban gay marriage.

So what? Stephanie and I disagree on gay marriage too. She thinks that gays should be able to marry anytime, anywhere, anyhow. I prefer a complete ban on it, but I'd be OK with States allowing it, so long that no other State is forced to recognize them against their will. Couples disagree on tons of things. Big deal. Perhaps the AP thinks they are showing the Cheneys to be some type of hypoctites, especially since they have a lesbian daughter. Who really cares besides militant gay groups.

Ah, the tolerance of France shines through again.

Mother, baby attacked on Paris train after mistaken for Jews

VERSAILLES, France - A young woman and her baby were attacked in a suburban train near Paris on Saturday by unidentified men who drew swastikas on her stomach with a pen in what police said was an anti-Semitic assault.

The six attackers who were armed with knives clipped the 23-year-old woman's hair, and cut her t-shirt and pants before drawing three swastikas on her body.

The men of North African origin also overturned the pram with her baby of 13 months.

Police said this was an anti-Semitic assault? I pretty much thought it was self-explanatory. And, why not just say what the attackers were: Members of the "religion of peace."

When the Jews in France start fighting back hard, and they will, I am quite sure the AP will not shy away from villifying them.

So, it looks like Shaq is going to Miami. Big f'n deal. I couldn't care less about the NBA, because basketball is a joke sport. All you have to do is put the game in with 2 minutes left. If the game is a blowout, you didn't miss anything. If the game is close, you still didn't miss anything. All you have to do then is watch the free-throw fest that takes place at the end of a close game.

I am much more interested in stories like this.

Steyn has a brilliant (as usual)column on John Edwards. My favorite parts:

Even if you have never heard it, you know how it goes: there's one America where Dick Cheney's oil buddies are swigging down Martinis and toasting their war profits; but there's another America where "tonight a 10-year-old little girl will go to bed hungry, hoping and praying that tomorrow will not be as cold as today because she doesn't have the coat to keep her warm".

You would have to have a heart of stone not to be weeping with laughter at that line. But Democratic primary voters are not that rude. So they looked thoughtful and engaged, and they nodded and they applauded. And then they went out and voted for somebody else.

There may be two Americas, but Edwards's America doesn't exist anywhere from Maine to Hawaii. Even as a lurid Victorian melodrama designed to frighten prosperous soccer moms into voting against hard-hearted Republicans, it sounds ridiculous.

Get this quote from Affleck:

"Because of Bush's tax cuts, I saved a million and a half in taxes last year. Does anyone think that's fair?"

Now, what exactly is stopping Affleck from donating that mil and a half to people he feels are hurt by Bush's tax cuts?

Of course John Kerry has no shame. Today, he is now pandering to the AIDS and immigration lobbies, by promising to to lift a ban on immigration to the United States by people with AIDS. According to the most-liberal Senator:

"I will work with Congress to lift the immigration ban on HIV-positive people that has prohibited the United States from hosting this lifesaving meeting."

How the hell could anyone besides a dopey liberal even think of wanting to lift this ban? So we can pay for their healthcare? (Oh wait, our healthcare sucks. Just ask Kerry.)

Of course, Kerry voted for this ban several years ago. So, basically, he was against AIDS before he was for it.
